Raf Simons sleeveless top from SS2004, constructed from a cotton jersey fabric and designed to be appear a faded orange. The piece features many surprises and oddities. The graphic on the front reads "Spectrum" when the letters on the astrological natal chart are read top down while the colors transition from a green-tinted to a purple-tinted black. The left side of the graphic near the "R" is printed in a way that gives the illusion of a faded image. The area on the arm holes and collar seams take on a lighter shade of orange from the dye. You may also notice that the side seams are asymmetrical: both seams start at the arm holes, though the left seam ends at the front of the shirt and the right seam ends at the back.
The piece is from the SS2004 "May the Circle be Unbroken" collection, which concerned itself with spirituality and was largely based on the Herman Hesse novel "Siddhartha." The collection is considered Raf's first deviation from the dark themes of riot, rebellion, and terror as seen in previous presentations, and was presented at the botanical garden Parc Floral de Paris. Despite the season's light-spirited nature, the pieces from this season still evoke dark energies via their cult-reminiscent imagery.
