Double-layered "Resisted" sleeveless top from Raf Simon's SS2003 "Consumed" collection.  The garment is crafted from structured cotton jersey and is fastened to an outer layer of technical mesh, a material present throughout many other garments from the "Consumed" collection. The graphic is designed by Raf Simons in collaboration with Peter de Potter and features an inverted cross with R.S. initials and text reading "RESISTED". It is a reference to the image shown in slide 7 and was inspired by the punk scene in DC during the 80's. All seams (neck, armholes, and hem) are left raw.

"Consumed" is considered by many avid collectors to be his best collection. The show is a meditation (not an outright critique, as some mistake) on consumerism, depicting a post-apocalyptic society where rampant consumerism has resulted in a survivalist mentality. Models walk down the runway adorned in garments with utilitarian-inspired detailing: camping pouches, harness straps, oversized-cut trousers, cans painted black dangling on necks, and ropes, string, and mesh strewn across the body.

The show notes read: “Today’s living environment is about consuming as well as being consumed; some suggest this could lead to an apocalyptic end, while others, particularly younger generations, take this reality as their cue to create new, more viable and flexible personas.”

Size: 48

  • Shoulder: 16 inch
  • Chest: 17.5 inch
  • Length: 30 inch

Condition:

The piece is in great condition, though there are two minor snags in the outer mesh as pictured, which is unsurprising for such an old piece with completely raw seams.
